Steal Like An Artist!

Let me explain. All art is theft. Artist borrow ideas from each other all of the time. Worrying about this is futile firstly because everyone does it and secondly you would suffer a lack of productivity bought on by analysis paralysis.

So I want you find 3 portrait photograph that you wish you had taken and steal the ideas! For each of your chosen shots I want you to write a paragraph or two about it, make sure you cover the following:
  • Why do you love the shot? Why has it struck a chord with you?
  • What props did they use?
  • How is the image lit? (flash natural light, candle light, etc).
  • What kind of model have they used? Who do you think would be a good stand in?
  • Where was the shot taken? Can you think of a similar location that you have access to?
  • What costumes props etc are essential to recreating this image and where could you get them from?
Next week I want you to be an excellent thief and faithfully recreate one of your chosen shots! So write a props list for your favourite shot and think creatively about how you can re stage that shot at college.

How to make your video pitch

Watch this video on how to create an elevator pitch.

So what is your pain statement?
What problem are your photographs going to solve for your chosen magazine?

What's your value proposition? How do your photographs solve the problem for the magazine? What's soo good about your photographic idea?

Remember to keep it succinct!
Make sure it's easy to understand!
Make sure it's clear why your idea will help sell more copies of the magazine this month!
Also explain technically how you are going to create the shots: Props, locations, people, etc
Don't forget to use your Mood Board to help illustrate your presentation.
